The Mayor of Colchester visited Autism Anglia’s Doucecroft School in Eight Ash Green to learn more about the services provided by the charity and understand more about autism. 

Pupils from the autism specialist school delighted in showing the Mayor around their school, including showing her the animals and the forest school.
They explained what they like about school and what the School Council do, including some of their environmental initiatives.

The Mayor of Colchester also met with charity Chief Executive James McQuiggan who explained more about the other services provided by the charity, including residential & supported living, training and Community Connect.

They discussed some of the difficulties autistic people face in the community such as access to employment and support in education in mainstream schools.
James McQuiggan said: 

“It was a pleasure to meet Mayor Scott-Boutell.  She took the time to answer the pupil’s questions, and it was also very interesting to hear more about her role and work in the local community.”

While the Mayor was visiting, some of the pupils were enjoying an art week activity which included trying unusual foods.  Crickets were on offer and the Mayor didn’t hesitate to try, much to the delight of the children!
