Getting Ready for Adult Life
We help learners get ready for life as adults. We want everyone to have the skills and confidence they need to be happy and successful after they leave school.
We want every learner to have the best chance to live a happy and successful life when they leave school.
The Transition Hub
From Year 10, learners join the Transition Hub where the focus is all about life after Doucecroft. We help them start planning for their future. Starting early gives them plenty of time to get ready for the next steps.
We work on life skills, such as:
- Traveling safely.
- Managing money.
- Getting to know their community.
They also earn OCR Life and Living Skills Qualifications to show what they’ve learned.
Plans for the Future: EHCP and Moving into Adulthood
Each year, we review every learner’s EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan). We check their progress and set new goals.
From Year 9, we also look at their Moving into Adulthood Plan. This plan, sent to the local council, explains what support the learner will need for college, work, or other programs after 16.
What Happens After Year 11?
When learners finish Year 11, they can:
- Go to a further education college or sixth form.
- Start an apprenticeship.
- Join another program that meets their needs.
We work with learners and their families to visit colleges, go to open days, and apply early for the courses or programs they choose.
College and Work Experience
- Learners visit local colleges to try out courses.
- They get work experience at school and with local employers.
Staying Healthy
We teach about health and well-being in PSHE and PE lessons to help learners stay active and happy.
Celebrating Achievements
We believe every learner should be proud of what they achieve. Certificates and awards show their hard work and progress.
With these programs, learners leave Doucecroft ready to take on adult life with confidence!
