Willow at Doucecroft School

A safe and supportive space for girls with autism and anxiety.

We’re proud to offer The Willow

The Willow is a place where young girls with autism and anxiety can learn in a way that meets their needs.

We know how closely autism and anxiety are linked and how this can make school difficult.

The Willow helps learners overcome these challenges, providing a calm, nurturing, and supportive environment.

Willow is in a separate area of Doucecroft School, with its own entrance and dedicated space. Learners can use the school’s wider facilities if they feel ready, but having a smaller, quieter setting helps ease the stress of being in a larger school. We only have 10 learners, so each person gets lots of support.

Our Approach To Learning

Building Trust and Confidence

We focus on rebuilding trust after difficult school experiences. Our small team includes specialist teachers, teaching assistants (TAs), learning support assistants (LSAs), a Pupil and Parent Wellbeing Assistant, and Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists. At first, we focus on building relationships with learners before we increase academic tasks.

To make the start as easy as possible, we meet learners where they feel most comfortable—whether at home, in the community, or on-site. At first, learners join for 15 hours a week. This time increases as they grow in confidence and feel part of our school.

Inspiring Learning

Lessons at Willow focus on each learner’s strengths, interests, and goals. Learning happens in different ways: on-site, in the local community, or through virtual platforms. We make sure every learner feels supported to reach their potential.

For those who are ready, we offer accredited qualifications, including a BTEC Certificate in Work Skills. Our Careers Team helps learners with work experience and college opportunities, preparing them for adulthood.

Supporting Families

We know families need support too. At The Willow, we share ideas to help at home, offer time to talk about any worries, and give you the chance to meet other parents who have similar experiences.

Therapy As Part Of Learning

Therapy is a big part of what we do. Each learner has a full screening by our Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists. We then create a plan to support their individual needs.

At Willow, we provide a safe, caring space where learners can grow and succeed. We also work closely with families to support everyone’s journey. Together, we can help learners thrive.
