A Celebration of Stories at Doucecroft School! 📚
11th March 2026
World Book Day is always a highlight for Doucecroft School, and this year’s celebration once again brought the whole community together for a day filled with imagination and creativity. The school was transformed with colour and character as learners and staff embraced the fun by arriving dressed as their favourite literary figures.
Bringing Books to Life
Throughout the day, classrooms were filled with activities inspired by much‑loved stories.
- Yellow Class set off on an adventure with How to Train Your Dragon, exploring themes of bravery and friendship.
- Pink Class turned their room into a scene from The Tiger Who Came to Tea, hosting their own sensory‑friendly tea party.
- Learners across the school enjoyed making Booky Nooks, decorating Paddington Bear suitcases, and sampling homemade Wonka Bars, lovingly created by the Kitchen Team.
These activities were designed to support every learner, providing opportunities to explore reading in hands‑on, accessible and engaging ways.
A Stronger Community Through Shared Experiences
In the afternoon, families were invited into the school to view the wonderful creations produced throughout the day. Parents, grandparents and carers spent time exploring displays, talking with learners and celebrating the effort and imagination behind each project.
This sense of togetherness is at the heart of Doucecroft. Welcoming families into the school environment helps strengthen connections, build confidence and create a warm, supportive community where learners feel valued and understood. Days like this remind everyone of the power of shared experiences and the important role they play in fostering communication, self‑expression and belonging.
A Wonderful End to a Memorable Day
As is tradition at Doucecroft, the celebration concluded with the much‑loved World Book Day disco, giving learners the chance to relax, dance and enjoy the final moments of a fun‑filled day.
World Book Day continues to be a cherished event within the school calendar, a chance to celebrate stories, creativity and the inclusive spirit that brings the Doucecroft community together year after year.
