Doucecroft Headteacher Samantha Lawrence Leaving to Take on New Role

We are sad to announce that Sam Lawrence, Headteacher at Doucecroft School, will be leaving Doucecroft School in early January 2026 to take on a new role as Headteacher of a local school.

Sam has been part of Autism Anglia for more than 20 years, beginning her journey at Doucecroft’s original site in Kelvedon. Over the past year, she has led the school with dedication and vision, focusing on continuous improvement and implementing a clear plan to enhance Ofsted outcomes.

During her time with the charity, Sam has been recognised as a kind, committed, and caring leader who has made a lasting impact on both Doucecroft and the wider Autism Anglia community.

James McQuiggan, Chief Executive of Autism Anglia, added:

“Sam has shown tireless dedication to the learners at Doucecroft and has worked incredibly hard to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive. Her leadership, warmth, and commitment have left a lasting impression on colleagues, learners, parents, and everyone across the charity. Sam will be greatly missed, and we thank her for everything she has achieved during her time with us.”

Sam Lawrence, Headteacher said:

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Doucecroft School and have had the privilege of working in many roles within the school. It’s an absolute honour to have got to know all the learners and their families throughout my time.

When I think about the children’s journeys, I find it awe-inspiring to consider the challenges they have faced. It is truly a privilege to witness their phenomenal progress, and I feel deeply fortunate to have played a small part in their stories.

I must admit that leaving is bittersweet. Doucecroft has become my second home, and I will miss the amazing atmosphere, the laughter, and the camaraderie. However, I believe it is time for me to gain new experiences, continue to grow, and learn in different ways. Thank you to everyone for your support; I carry this with me into my next chapter.”

While her departure will be felt deeply, this new chapter marks an exciting opportunity for Sam and the entire Autism Anglia team extends their sincere thanks and best wishes for her continued success in her new role.
